About the series: After losing the first 19 games in the series, McMinn County has won two of the last six contests against Oak Ridge. One of the most memorable games in the series came in 1975 in the Class AAA semifinals. The Cherokees, led by future University of Tennessee tailback Hubert Simpson, gave the eventual state champion Wildcats what turned out to be their toughest test of the playoffs that season before falling 28-14 on Blankenship Field.
